Solemnity of Our Lord, Jesus Christ; King of the Universe - By Julian Torres

The Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe

23/11/2025

This weekend we celebrate the Solemnity of Christ the King, a feast

recognizing Jesus as our Lord and only King. Many of us have heard the saying

“Put not your trust in princes”

, yet how many times do we do that on a daily basis?

The mortality of this world does not satisfy the hunger we so much yearn for,

rather our “Hunger” can be only satisfied by the King of the Universe. Our

ultimate destination should be with God. Day by day we live as if money, power,

and pleasure will satisfy us. Every time we put our trust in these material things we

fall short of the glory of God and abandon ourselves to loneliness, betrayal, and a

yearning for truth. Our Lord in the first reading echos this call saying that we will

only be shepherd by one God, one Lord. In the old testament, time and time again

the Israelites yearn for this Lordship, a kingship that ultimately is fulfilled in Christ

Jesus. In the gospel we see them rebel against their own answered prayer. They

yearned for a king, yet when he arrived, he was rejected.

In our day and time we relive this scene of the crucifixion and reject our

Lord and King. The material world rejects this view of Christ as King, and often

we agree with the rejection that the only King is Christ. Politics, Religion, andConflict carry us to the thought that in the end we are our Kings ourselves and no

one else could rule our lives. The world should revolve around us because if we

could also lord over our lives then we have no need for a redeemer. Our faith is an

actively living and growing faith that deserves attention and honor. Our God is so

great he dies and still chooses to rule over us not to condemn us but to guide us

through His spirit. This precisely is the beauty to crown Christ as King, not so we

may feel closed off to the world but rather feel empowered that our God is great

and deserves to be proclaimed as one who Shepherds not controls.

Let us all take courage for the spiritual battle does not end until every heart

has bowed to the name of Jesus. The victory has been assured through the Cross

and Resurrection. It is now our job to proclaim that our King lives and has come to

save and conquer the hearts of the world.

Praise be Jesus Christ, Now and Forever,
